1. (Bot.) Vegetable tissue composed of
short cells with thickened or hardened walls, as in nutshells and the
gritty parts of a pear. See Sclerotic.

2. (Zoöl.) The hard calcareous
deposit in the tissues of Anthozoa, constituting the stony
corals.
