patch of white + &?;, &?;, a foot: cf. F. phalarope.]
(Zoöl.) Any species of Phalaropus and allied
genera of small wading birds (Grallæ), having lobate
toes. They are often seen far from land, swimming in large flocks.
Called also sea goose.
