Euphrates, a river in West Asia, formed by the junction of two
Armenian streams; flows SE. to Kurnah, where it is joined by the Tigris.
The combined waters—named the Shat-el-Arab—flow into the Persian Gulf;
is 1700 m. long, and navigable for 1100 m.
