'h`ryggos eryngo; cf. L. eryngion, erynge.]
(Bot.) A genus of umbelliferous plants somewhat like
thistles in appearance. Eryngium maritimum, or sea holly, has
been highly esteemed as an aphrodisiac, the roots being formerly
candied.
