Definition of Puseiism
Puseyism, defined by Carlyle to be "a noisy theoretic demonstration
and laudation of the Church, instead of some unnoisy, unconscious, but
practical, total, heart-and-soul demonstration of a Church, ... a
matter to strike one dumb," and apropos to which he asks pertinently, "if
there is no atmosphere, what will it serve a man to demonstrate the
excellence of lungs?"
