kind of red bronze, fr. Gr. &?;; &?; fire + &?; the eye, face: cf. F.
pyrope.] (Min.) A variety of garnet, of a poppy or
blood-red color, frequently with a tinge of orange. It is used as a
gem. See the Note under Garnet.
