Definition of Pigmalion
Pygmalion, king of Cyprus, is said to have fallen in love with an
ivory statue of a maiden he had himself made, and to have prayed
Aphrodité to breathe life into it. The request being granted, he married
the maiden and became by her the father of Paphus.
