1. To cover over completely, as by a great
wave; to overflow and bury beneath; to ingulf; hence, figuratively,
to immerse and bear down; to overpower; to crush; to bury; to
oppress, etc., overpoweringly.
The sea overwhelmed their enemies.

hath overwhelmed me.
