formidabilis, fr. formidare to fear, dread: cf. F.
formidable.] Exciting fear or apprehension; impressing
dread; adapted to excite fear and deter from approach, encounter, or
undertaking; alarming.

sight. Dryden.

formidable, when you see so many pages behind.
