Foreland in Kent, England.
2. (Fort.) A piece of ground between
the wall of a place and the moat. Farrow.
3. (Hydraul. Engin.) That portion of
the natural shore on the outside of the embankment which receives the
stock of waves and deadens their force. Knight.
