Ep`i*glot"tis (?), n. [NL., fr. Gr. &?;; 'epi` upon + &?;, &?;, tongue. See Glottis.] (Anat.) A cartilaginous lidlike appendage which closes the glottis while food or drink is passing while food or drink is passing through the pharynx.
