basic.] (Chem.) Having two acid hydrogen atoms
capable of replacement by basic atoms or radicals, in forming salts;
bibasic; -- said of acids, as oxalic or sulphuric acids. Cf.

tetravalent and dibasic, lactic acid is divalent
