scattering; dia` through, asunder + &?; to sow, scatter
like seed: cf. F. diaspore.] (Min.) A hydrate of
alumina, often occurring in white lamellar masses with brilliant
pearly luster; -- so named on account of its decrepitating when
heated before the blowpipe.
