fr. cosmetic + L. oleum oil.] (Chem.) A
substance obtained from the residues of the distillation of
petroleum, essentially the same as vaseline, but of
somewhat stiffer consistency, and consisting of a mixture of the
higher paraffines; a kind of petroleum jelly.
