Definition of Contirminous

Con*ter"mi*nous (?), a. [L. conterminus. Cf. Conterminous.] Having the same bounds, or limits; bordering upon; contiguous.

This conformed so many of them as were conterminous to the colonies and garrisons, to the Roman laws.

  • Sharing a single external border, as the forty-eight conterminous United States. Similar to the City and County of San Francisco. Their borders are one and the same. Conterminous regions may have different names, hence "Brooklyn" and "Kings County" in New York.
         The forty-eight conterminous states do not include Alaska or Hawaii.
