hornet.] (Zoöl.) A genus of small beetles, several of
which, in the larval state, are very destructive to woolen goods, fur, etc.
The common "museum pest" is A. varius; the carpet beetle is A.
scrophulariæ. The larvæ are commonly confounded with
moths.
